Today I have Leanne & Theo's sun-drenched Tuscan Villa wedding at Fattoria La Loggia; near San Casciano in Val di Pesa for those getting married in Italy next year to check out. It feels a weird time to share a destination wedding in Italy while we are in the midst of a lockdown because of Covid19, but maybe it’s a perfect time. We could all do with some positivity and in my view, a joyous wedding might just be it! Soon weddings across the world will return, and couples will able to celebrate with their friends and family once more.
There is always a mixture of stress and then calm, arriving in Italy. Arriving at the busy airport with throws of tourists all clambering to find their luggage to driving through the chaos of Florence. It is only when you venture to the tranquil Tuscany roads that a sense of peace avails. For those who have not travelled to this gorgeous region of Italy, let me attempt to describe it in a few words.
Imagine being greeted by the rolling hills all blending with shades of brown and green hues. The sense of excitement when you see the iconic rows of cypress trees, pierce the midday sky. As you drive down the twisting roads; you pass charming towns and villages one after the other, all probably steeped in history for the past 2ooo years.
Everyone from the wedding party chose to stay at this gorgeous Tuscan vineyard - a perfect wedding venue - named Fattoria La Loggia. Rows of grapevines etch the landscape, as guests (& a pink flamingo) take the opportunity to cool down in the glistening pool. It is going to be a hot one...
Meanwhile, Leanne is up in one fo the rooms getting ready with her mother & friends as Theo heads to meet his dad to start putting on his suit.
The couple wanted one of their close friends to marry them as all their friends & family started to find their seats under the Italian sun for an outdoor Tuscan ceremony. The lawn of Fattoria La Loggia creates such a beautiful backdrop as Leanne & Theo exchanged their vows. One of my favourite images is of them being showered by confetti at the end of the lawn alter, such happiness that it’s hard not to smile looking at it.
I absolutely love the styling for this wedding - As part of the decorations, Leanne and her family-in-law handmade a load of Macramé dreamcatchers that were hanging around the venue. These combined perfectly with the Rue de Seine boho wedding dress and added to it.
“Myself, Metaxoulla (sister-in-law) and Mandy (mother-in-law) – the Macramé Army – made all of the macramé hangings for the venue by hand. This included all of the dreamcatchers, the backdrop for the ceremony, the chair backs for Therapon and I, and the table plan.” Leanne
Tuscan villa weddings are relaxed affairs, in between laughing & drinking with friends, you get to nibble delicious Italian food. It’s definitely more food reception than a drinks reception in Italy! As everyone else enjoys the food, I took the couple off for some pictures down the aisles of grapevines that scatter the venue; that dress was made for this setting.
Fattoria La Loggia has a magical ambience for everyone to sit down to enjoy the Tuscan feast. Two rows of beautifully decorated tables all situated on the top of a hill with the vineyard stretching across the opposing side, perfection. I get to sit down with everyone and enjoy the mixture of tasty courses. The sensational four-cheese risotto; spinach & ricotta ravioli followed by steak on a bed of rocket & parmesan, my mouth is watering just writing about it.
The night before the wedding I had scouted out a perfect place where the sun sets in just the right way for some epic photographs of the couple. Like all weddings having a plan and making it work with speeches is always challenging, you never can know how long they can go on for. The light started to dip as the speeches progressed and I could feel my heart sink a little, have I missed that gorgeous light?
Once Leanne & Theo had finished, I grabbed my car, and we chased the fading sun. We arrived at the spot and just missed it by seconds. Still, the resulting images are some of my favourites, using the Tuscan twilight with the couple getting close made something even more enchanting. My absolute favourite photograph is of them both down the long dipping vineyard with the dusk outline of the Italian landscape glowing in shades of oranges and browns in the background, so happy with this one.
As we all ventured back, the sky fading from blues to black as festoon lights stretching from tree to tree lit up the venue. I love the first dance between Leanne & Theo as all their family and friends waved sparklers in the background. Everyone joining the couple to dance the night away!
