I don’t blog often, but when I do you know it’s going to be a good one! Kat & Pierre’s French wedding at Chateau de la Bourlie is unique for all the right reasons. Located in the Dordogne region of south-west France it is a spectacular chateau for a wedding, especially when you get a perfect summers day to celebrate it! Even though a little hot at 36 degrees, one toasty photographer…
This was my first wedding in France, so I’m glad it was a good one to start things off! I got to travel with Ben Walton, and his brother Sam who was doing the video for the wedding (definitely check out his website at the end of the post, talented guy!). We all got to stay at the Chateau the night before the wedding, and it definitely helped work out the best places for portraits.
There are so many opportunities to create something special at Château de la Bourlie it was really essential to narrow down where I would take the couple off for pictures.
To have a cool venue is one thing, but when you tie that with an incredible couple who truly are meant to be together, you have something extraordinary. From the look, Kat & Pierre give each other when they have exchange vows during their outdoor ceremony nestled between the row of trees on the chateau lawn. To the connection they have during the emotional family speeches, you can really feel the support and love they have for one another.
The wedding reception was held in the courtyard of the Chateau, which looked very romantic lit up as the evening sun slowly dispersed during the courses. I think this was my favourite part of the day to photograph.
It also had one of the best surprises I’ve seen at a wedding. The chef came on to make a speech after the cake was cut, then surprisingly he started singing to a tune that even Pavarotti would be happy with, what followed was a 20-minute singing tenor battle between him and the “waiters” with the guests and the couple loving every minute!
The final act of the night was the awesome party in the Chateau’s cellar with an indie cover band called the “Brightlights” getting that place even hotter than it was in the day! Definitely made for some awesome images on the dancefloor! It’s nice when a couple invites you to have a few drinks after you have worked your little socks off!
I hope you enjoy this beautiful Chateau de la Bourlie wedding as much as I did! Let me know what you think at the end of the post.
