Oh, I have a special one for you today, Laura & Suzie had an incredible Chateau de Lisse wedding in Lot-et-Garonne within the Aquitaine region of South-West France, a great day to get married as it was also my birthday! I had met the couple before as they were guests at Holly & Max’s equally stunning wedding where they both had sung beautifully during the ceremony! Suzie is a west-end singer and after face-timing the couple I knew their wedding would be full of beautiful musicality.
I had been excited for this wedding leading up to the date, both Laura & Suzie are two the loveliest of people I have met and are so in love it makes you smile just seeing them together. Chateau de Lisse is also breathtaking, as you drive down the small french country roads you start to see the turrets emerge in the distance. The grandeur of the French Castle becomes apparent, built in the 14th century, and local legend even has it that it once belonged to Joan of Arc’s brother!
But it’s when you start to walk around the chateau you get a sense of how excellent wedding venue it is; there are so many facets and beautiful areas for the various sections of the day that it never feels like your seeing the same part twice.
The sun was starting to get intense as the staff were rolling the tables for the wedding reception; florists were delicately doing the finishing touches to the beautiful array of flowers and children were taking one final dip in the swimming pool to cool down. Both Laura & Suzie were finishing their vows in different rooms of the chateau.
I do love the buzz of a wedding in the morning. The couple had both unknowingly decided on wedding dress designer Sassi Holford for each of their dresses and Sassi and her team worked there magic to make sure the dresses worked beautifully with one another (just check out their first kiss photograph and you will see what I mean!)
As the couple both got ready, guests started to arrive for the ceremony which was in the chapel of the chateau, a rustic stone room with only a few small windows channelling light into the atmospheric expanse helped only with the flittering of candlelight at the altar. Both Laura & Suzie wanted to walk down the aisle, Suzie would go first, side by side with her father and would wait for Laura to arrive with her father, I love the expression on their faces as they both see each other in their dresses for the first time.
Music was always going to be a pivotal element to this wedding, and it was helped along by several of Suzie’s west-end colleagues who all sang for the couple, their beautiful voices echoing around the walls of the chapel and into the delighted ears of guests. A humanist celebrant based in France conducted the ceremony, I enjoy these types of services, they always make an effort to get to know the couple and to tell that beautiful story to everyone listening!
It was time for Laura & Suzie to face one another and read their vows, these are some of my favourite photographs, the combination of dresses, light and the pure joy on each of the couple’s faces working beautifully to create something enchanting.
Laura & Suzie had told me that they had a surprise for all their guests; they both made their way upstairs as everyone found a seat on the grassed courtyard of the chateau. Suddenly the couple appeared from neighbouring windows to serenade all their family and friends below! Such a beautiful, memorable moment for everyone to savour from the wedding.
There is such a magical vibe on the courtyard of Chateau de Lisse; all Laura & Suzie's guests received personalised cards for each on their table place which they read, it must have taken Laura & Suzie a lifetime to write! But as you can tell from the reactions, it was well worth the effort!
As the evening slowly etched its way to darkness, it was time for the two brides to take to the dancefloor for the first dance! Such an incredible to see their Sassi Holford dresses swinging around as they danced their heart outs. Once the couple had dance side by side with their fathers, it was time to move everyone to the front of the chateau to get the party started with a mixture of espresso martinis and a ceilidh dance for a few songs to get everyone’s heart racing!
I hope you adore Laura & Suzie’s Chateau de Lisse wedding as much as me!
